American Patrols has been recognized by Energy Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top Aerial Patrol Services 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top Oil and Gas Services,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Energy Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Travis Reese, President.
American Patrols delivers aerial leak detection and patrol services through a centralized command-and-control model that gives its operations team a complete view of customer obligations across its coast-to-coast operation. By coordinating aircraft, personnel and schedules from a central point, the company responds to disruptions in one region without losing sight of commitments elsewhere. This centralized oversight allows the team to reassign resources, recover delayed work and keep customers current on required inspections when weather or other conditions prevent a flight.
“Our mission is to be our customers’ most trusted leak detection service,” says Travis Reese, president.
That mission guides daily decisions, with the statement recited at the beginning of every staff meeting. Employees are encouraged to ask what choice they would make if the customer were in the room, keeping customer commitments at the center of their decisions.
Building Reliability through Redundancy
American Patrols builds operational redundancy into its aircraft, engines and pilot availability. Its fleet of more than 80 aircraft allows the team to deploy replacements when failures occur and prioritize repairs based on customer commitments.
Aircraft maintenance is handled in-house, providing direct control over repair priorities and timelines. External providers may prioritize higher-paying aviation customers, delaying patrol work. In-house maintenance lets the company move pilots to available aircraft, prioritize critical repairs and turn operating experience into standardized practices that improve reliability and safety.
From Detection to Field Response
American Patrols routes inspection findings through its centralized command center, creating a consistent reporting process. Pilots send identified issues to the operations team, where ground-based staff document and classify each finding according to the customer’s reporting criteria and urgency.
Pilots are trained to look beyond specific inspection targets, giving them a broader mandate to identify anything unusual, from wellhead leaks to changes in vegetation around tank batteries. The operations team then refines location data to provide highly precise GPS coordinates that can reach the fourth decimal point. Field personnel can use those coordinates to navigate directly to a reported location instead of searching a broader area. American Patrols measures every customer report against an internal turnaround standard of less than 10 minutes and routinely averages four to six minutes.
It also accommodates urgent inspection requests by launching missions in response to unexpected customer needs. This flexibility proved valuable when a customer discovered a leak into a bay along the Gulf Coast in Texas on Christmas Eve. The customer’s local provider could not respond because its only pilot in the area was on leave. American Patrols, which operates 365 days a year, dispatched a pilot the following morning and identified where oil was pooling.
Experience across Aviation and Energy
American Patrols has nearly four decades of experience flying for the oil and gas industry. The team includes members with over 20 years in the sector, while the majority of its leadership are military veterans. Its operations leaders bring more than two decades of Air Force experience, while its maintenance leader has 30 years of aircraft maintenance experience in the Air Force.
That operational depth is supported by strategically located bases across the U.S., allowing the company to position aircraft closer to customer projects. The geographic footprint also enables it to mobilize into new regions when needed, reducing travel-related costs and improving efficiency.
For American Patrols, reliability is not just about completing an aerial inspection. It is about building an operation that customers can depend on when conditions change, and the need for timely information becomes most critical. That commitment to dependable mission delivery is reflected in its recognition as the Top Aerial Patrol Services 2026 for making reliability a consistent standard for customers.
